Abbreviations Part 1
Sometimes internal and external teams use abbreviations, which is why it’s important to know them for clear communication in questions and requests.
SOP – Standard Operating Procedure
TT – Transit Time
The total time it takes for a shipment or load to move from pickup location to delivery location, including driving time and expected delays.
Left TT – Left Transit Time
The remaining estimated time for a shipment/load to reach its destination after departure, based on current progress, distance, and expected delays.
BOL – Bill of Lading
Make sure the BOL matches system information, and in case of any discrepancy, proceed according to the policy instructions.
POD – Proof of Delivery (BOL signed by receiver)
GTG, G2G – Good To Go
It’s important to get confirmation that the driver is good to depart once loaded or unloaded (if required). In case of any mix-up with the freight, we may be responsible for compensating the miles the driver drove to return to the facility.
OTD – On-Time Delivery
The measure of whether a shipment is delivered within the agreed delivery time window or scheduled appointment time. Failure to meet OTD can lead to rate reductions, service issues, and customer dissatisfaction. It applies to both late and early arrivals without prior coordination, valid reason and approval from the customer.
RC – Rate Confirmation
A document that confirms the agreed rate, load details, pickup and delivery information between the broker and carrier.
POC – Point of Contact
The person responsible for communication regarding a specific load. This is the main contact you reach out to for updates or coordination.
HOS – Hours of Service
These are federal rules that limit how long a driver can operate a commercial vehicle. They define driving time, mandatory breaks, and required rest periods to ensure safety.
ELD – Electronic Logging Device
This is a device/system used in trucks to automatically record a driver’s driving hours, duty status, and compliance with HOS regulations.
ETA – Estimated Time of Arrival
ASAP – As soon as possible
Appt – Appointment
LBS – Pounds
TONU – Truck Ordered Not Used
This is a fee paid to a carrier/driver when a truck is dispatched or scheduled for a load, but the load gets canceled or the truck is not used after being assigned.
